Abstract:
This thesis introduces a new system structure enabling the design of flexible digital systems for machine vision with the help of high-speed busses. This system structure has been developed by using object-oriented methods for representative examples of machine vision. The thesis aims at achieving the following results: first, to elaborate a method of accessing the internal resources of a digital device and, secondly, to find a replacement for vendor-dependent interfaces in order to render external data transmission more flexible. The system structure proposed in this work consists of modules, components and module bridges. The author has applied for a patent on this system structure. In addition to the theoretical design, some main parts of this system structure have been made as real prototype. As a bus system for the prototype the high speed serial bus IEEE 1394 (FireWire) was chosen. The development of a prototype card which is suited to industrial applications provides the necessary proof that the suggested approach can be realized. With this INFA FireWire, card a practical demonstration of the approach mentioned was first given at the 1998 Hanover Industrial Fair. The final part of this thesis contains an analysis of the future development of IEEE 1394 and the perspectives for implementing the system structure mentioned.
