Assessment systems have been growing out of the ground like mushrooms in the time during (and after) the COVID19-Pandemic. Many of them just support common question types like multiple choice answers, numeric expressions or essay answers. Chemists however are used to answer many questions by drawing structures, diagrams or sketches. There exists some plugins to extend common assessment systems and get around these limits, but they cannot cover all eventualities. Other solutions like drawing on paper and scanning afterwards to get them into the examination report result in a media break and might also lead to low quality images. To overcome this limitation we have developed a(nother) assessment system with extension to a simplified whiteboard application. The examination room at TU Wien now hosts 50+ computer stations (VDI-based) equipped with a digitizer, and candidates now answer their exams either by typing into the assessment system or by drawing them onto the tablet (like they would draw on a sheet of A5 paper). The full examination report is ready for grading at the second the candidates submits the exam, and the whole process is fully digital now (even the cheat sheets by the students get digital ….). Although the system is reported to be very easy to handle we put effort into onboarding the students to the system. As part of a chemical calculation lecture they have to do a weekly calculation example to stepwise get in contact with the different modules (secure browser, whiteboard app, video interface) of the system and get prepared for the first exam at the end of the first semester.
