Abstract:
Rejuvenators are used to enhance the properties of hot asphalt mixtures with high Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) content (>40%). While it is well recognized that these materials help to restore the mechanical performance of the RAP for another life-service period, the impact of climate-related factors in their mechanical performance and durability over time is still not fully understood. This study assesses the moisture susceptibility and fracture behaviour of various Fine Aggregate Matrix (FAM) materials containing 30% FAM-RAP and two palm oil rejuvenators (crude palm oil and soft stearin) by means of the Semi-Circular Bending (SCB) under dry and wet conditions. The results suggest that the palm oil rejuvenators at the selected doses preserved the structural integrity of the material after moisture conditioning in comparison to the FAM samples fabricated with virgin binder, and with virgin and RAP binder.
