Abstract:

Getting to know Meidling in form of a board game? Experiencing urban development through experiment on the playing field? My diploma thesis shows that this is indeed compatible. The first part therefore, deals with the impressions, which I collected when going for scientific city walks. The second fundamental centerpiece for the development of the board game are the conversations, which I personally conducted with residents as well as different stakeholders of the district of Meidling. On the one hand the game is about revealing the existing qualities of the public space, regardless whether those are only isolated objects or large-scale configurations. Additionally I would like to raise the awareness of the players to established potentials as well as possible unwanted processes within the city's structure. It should also help the players to individually come up with possible solutions for those processes. With the help of this playful approach the know-how of both, city planners and non professionals intensifies and is shaped. This thesis is an experiment and should seduce to play with the city.
