Vernakuläre Architektur in Vorarlberg im Wandel : Technische, soziale und klimarelevante Aspekte der Veränderung

Abstract

Die gegenständliche Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit vernakulärer, regionstypischer Architektur in Vorarlberg. Untersucht werden sowohl bau- und regionstypologische Charakteristika als auch deren Veränderungen unter dem Einfluss ökologischer, sozialer und wirtschaftlicher Faktoren. Der Frage, inwieweit die bestimmten Objekte als zirkuläre Architekturen bewertet werden können, wird dabei besondere Beachtung geschenkt. Besonders berücksichtigt werden umweltbezogene und naturräumliche Einflüsse wie Klima sowie die lokale und regionale Verfügbarkeit von Material- und Fachkräften. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wird untersucht, inwiefern diese Faktoren die Entstehung und Entwicklung der betreffenden Architekturen beeinflusst haben. Der bauliche Fokus liegt auf den zu Wohnzwecken genutzten Teilen ländlich-bäuerlicher Bauten. Anhand von Bestandsaufnahmen und mit einem standardisierten Interview- Fragenkatalog werden aktuelle bautechnische und soziale Tendenzen erfasst – etwa hinsichtlich des thermischen Komforts der Bewohnerinnen und Bewohner, des Wandels im Umgang mit Architektur sowie der Bedeutung regionstypischer Handwerkstechniken. Anhand gewonnener Erkenntnisse werden bauliche Veränderungsmaßnahmen analysiert und bestimmte Tendenzen der Veränderung sichtbar gemacht. Die Masterarbeit wird inhaltlich durch das ERC-Forschungsprojekt CLIMATE-Arch (Climate and ContemporaryTransformations of Vernacular Architecture - Interaction, Effects and Perspectives) unterstützt.

This Master's thesis deals with the vernacular architecture of Vorarlberg. It examines both architectural and regional typological characteristics, as well as their transformation under the influence of ecological, social, and economic factors. Particular attention is given to the question of to what extent the selected buildings can be regarded as examples of circular architecture. Special consideration is given to environmental and natural spatial factors such as climate, as well as the local and regional availability of materials and skilled labor. The study investigates how these factors have influenced the genesis and development of the respective architectural forms. The structural focus lies on the residential parts of rural and agricultural buildings. Through building surveys and a standardized interview questionnaire, current technical and social trends are recorded — for example, regarding the thermal comfort of residents, changing attitudes toward architecture, and the significance of regionspecific craftsmanship techniques. Based on the gained knowledge, structural change measures are analyzed and certain trends of change are made visible.
