Bahnhof unter Grün : Clujs neuer Brückenpark

Abstract

Der Bahnhof von Cluj-Napoca stellt einen der wichtigsten Verkehrsknotenpunkte im Westen Rumäniens dar. Angesichts der dynamischen Stadtentwicklung, des stetigen Bevölkerungswachstums sowie eines kontinuierlichen Anstiegs des Tourismus, gewinnt die Rolle des Bahnhofs als multimodales Mobilitätszentrum zunehmend an Bedeutung. Dennoch bleibt die bestehende Infrastruktur in vielen Bereichen hinter den Anforderungen einer modernen, nachhaltigen und nutzerfreundlichen Verkehrsdrehscheibe zurück. Diese Diplomarbeit befasst sich mit der Neuinterpretation und gestalterischen Aufwertung des Hauptbahnhofs von Cluj-Napoca. Im Zentrum stehen dabei die Verbesserung der regionalen und überregionalen Verkehrsanbindungen, die geplante Anbindung an den internationalen Flughafen sowie die Integration des Bahnhofs in das städtische Mobilitätsnetz. Besonderes Augenmerk liegt auf der Verknüpfung verschiedener Verkehrsträger– Bahn, Bus, Straßenbahn, Fahrrad und Fußverkehr– unter Berücksichtigung aktueller Standards in Nachhaltigkeit, Barrierefreiheit und Nutzerkomfort. Darüber hinaus wird der Bahnhof als sozialer und öffentlicher Raum gedacht: nicht nur als Transitort, sondern als lebendiger, urbaner Treffpunkt mit Aufenthaltsqualität. Ziel der Arbeit ist es, ein zukunftsweisendes Konzept für einen Bahnhof zu entwickeln, der den funktionalen Anforderungen eines wachsenden urbanen Zentrums gerecht wird und gleichzeitig als identitätsstiftender Ort für die Stadt Cluj-Napoca fungiert.

The railway station of Cluj-Napoca is one of the most important transportation hubs in western Romania. In light of the city’s dynamic urban development, steadily growing population, and increasing tourism, the role of the station as a multimodal mobility center is becoming ever more critical. However, the current infrastructure falls short in meeting the demands of a modern, sustainable, and user-oriented transportation node. This thesis focuses on the redesign and architectural enhancement of Cluj-Napoca’s main railway station. At the core of the project are improvements to regional and international transport connections, the planned future link to Cluj-Napoca International Airport, and the integration of the station into the city’s broader mobility network. Special emphasis is placed on the interconnection of various modes of transport—rail, bus, tram, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic—aligned with contemporarystandards of sustainability, accessibility, and user experience. Moreover, the station is envisioned not only as a place of transit, but also as a social and public space: a vibrant urban meeting point with high spatial and architectural quality. The aim of this thesis is to develop a forward-looking concept for a railway station that meets the functional needs of a growing urban center, while also serving as a place of identity and interaction within the city of Cluj-Napoca.
