Vom Verbrenner zur Batterie : wie verändert Elektromobilität Produktions- und Logistikstrategien in der Automobilindustrie

Abstract

Die vorliegende Masterarbeit befasst sich mit den tiefgreifenden Veränderungen in der Automobilindustrie, die durch den Übergang von Fahrzeugen mit Verbrennungsmotor (Internal Combustion Engine – ICE) hin zu batterieelektrischen Fahrzeugen (Electric Vehicles – EV) ausgelöst werden. Im Fokus steht die Analyse, wie sich dieser technologische Wandel auf Produktions- und Logistikstrategien auswirkt und welche strukturellen Anpassungen notwendig sind, um den Übergang erfolgreich zu gestalten.Es wird gezeigt, dass der Wechsel zu EVs nicht nur neue Fertigungsschritte wie die Batteriezellproduktion, Modul- und Packmontage oder Hochvolttests erfordert, sondern auch eine grundlegende Neugestaltung bestehender Produktionslayouts. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt der Arbeit liegt auf Nachhaltigkeit und Kreislaufwirtschaft. Recyclingstrategien, Second-Life-Konzepte sowie der Einsatz erneuerbarer Energien in der Produktion werden als entscheidende Faktoren für eine ressourcenschonende und zukunftsfähige Wertschöpfung identifiziert. Zudem werden geopolitische Abhängigkeiten bei Rohstoffen wie Lithium, Kobalt und Nickel sowie Strategien zu deren Risikominimierung untersucht. Die Ergebnisse verdeutlichen, dass der Wandel zur Elektromobilität weit über einen reinen Technologiewechsel hinausgeht: Er stellt einen fundamentalen Strukturwandel dar, der nur durch vorausschauende und nachhaltige Strategien bewältigt werden kann. Unternehmen, die diesen Wandel proaktiv angehen und technologische Flexibilität mit ökologischer Verantwortung verbinden, können sich langfristig als führende Akteure in der globalen Mobilität der Zukunft etablieren.

This master’s thesis examines the profound transformation of the automotiveindustry driven by the shift from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to battery electric vehicles (EVs). The focus lies on analyzing the impact of this technological transition on production and logistics strategies, as well as identifying the structural adjustments required for a successful transformation.The study shows that the transition to EVs not only necessitates new manufacturing processes such as battery cell production, module and packassembly, and high-voltage testing, but also requires a fundamental redesign of existing production layouts. Another core aspect of the thesis is sustainability and circular economy practices. Battery recycling strategies, second-life applications, and the use of renewable energy in production are identified as key levers for resource-efficient and futureproof value creation. Furthermore, geopolitical dependencies on raw materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel are discussed, along with strategies to mitigate related risks.The findings illustrate that the shift to electromobility goes far beyond a technological change: it constitutes a fundamental structural transformation that can only be managed through forward-looking and sustainable strategies.Companies that proactively embrace this change and combine technological flexibility with ecological responsibility can secure a leading position in the future.
