La Chiesa Diruta – Neues Leben für die Ruine

Abstract

Chiesa Diruta, die “verfallene Kirche” in Grottole, Süditalien ist die Ruine einer katholischen Kirche aus dem 16. Jhdt. Sie wurde im Laufe der Zeit durch Erdbeben und Vernachlässigung schwer in Mitleidenschaft gezogen, aber nun soll der Ort nach langem Leerstand wiederbelebt werden. Die Ruine in einer Region, die stark von Abwanderung, Überalterung und Leerstand geprägt ist, soll eine neue Verwendung als Kultur- und Gemeinschaftszentrum bekommen. Ziel des Projekts ist einerseits, in und um der Kirchenruine einen Raum für kulturelle Veranstaltungen, wie Konzerte, Theater- und Filmvorstellungen schaffen. Es soll ein Treffpunkt für Bewohner*innen und attraktives Ziel für Besucher*innen in der Altstadt von Grottole werden. Andererseits soll der historische Bestand langfristig gegen weiteren Verfall geschützt werden.Zu diesem Zweck wird eine Analyse des Bestands durchgeführt, insbesondere dem jetzigen Zustand und den Gründen für den Verfall. Aufbauend auf der Analyse wird ein Entwurf entwickelt, bei dem die Ruine unter Berücksichtigung des Denkmalschutzes teilweise wiederhergestellt und erweitert wird.Es wird eine zweite überdachte Ebene über dem Hauptraum geschaffen, auf der ein geschlossener Veranstaltungssaal untergebracht ist. Der Hauptraum wird zum „Dorfplatz“, einem öffentlichen, überdachten Außenraum. Zusätzlich werden die Nebenräume so konzipiert, dass sie je nach Bedarf sowohl dem Veranstaltungssaals als auch dem öffentlichen Raum zugweisen werden können.

Chiesa Diruta, the “Fallen-church” in Grottole, southern Italy is the ruin of a 16th-century Catholic church. Over time, it has been severely damaged by earthquakes and neglect, but now, after standing empty for a long time, the site is to be revitalised. The ruins, located in a region heavily affected by emigration, ageing and vacancy, are to be given a new use as a cultural and community centre. The aim of the project is, on the one hand, to create a space for cultural events such as concerts, theatre and film screenings in and around the church ruins. It is to become a meeting place for residents and an attractive destination for visitors to the old town of Grottole. On the other hand, the historic building is to be protected against further decay in the long term.To this end, an analysis of the building will be carried out, focusing in particular on its current condition and the reasons for its decay. Based on the analysis, a design will be developed in which the ruins will be partially restored and extended, taking into account the requirements of monument protection.A second covered level will be created above the main room to house a closed event hall. The main room will become the ‘village square’, a public, covered outdoor space. In addition, the adjoining rooms will be designed so that they can be allocated to either the event hall or the public space as required.
