Zirkulärer Holzhybridbau: Ein nachhaltiger Ansatz für ein neues Forum in Brigittenau

Abstract

Das Projekt im 20. Wiener Gemeindebezirk Brigittenau basiert auf einer Analyse des Stadtraums, bestehender Bauten und sozialer Strukturen. Ziel ist die Entwicklung eines integrativen Quartiers,das soziale, ökologische und materielle Nachhaltigkeit vereint und Menschen unterschiedlicher Altersgruppen und Bedürfnisse anspricht.Im Zentrum steht ein öffentlich zugängliches Forum, das als räumliches und soziales Herzstück Begegnung, Austausch und gemeinschaftliche Nutzung ermöglicht. Die städtebauliche Setzung der drei neuen Gebäude schafft neue Durchwegungen, offene Erdgeschossbereiche und großzügige Freiräume, die das bestehende Stadtgefüge mit dem Stadtentwicklungsgebiet Grüne Mitte verbinden.Ein Schwerpunkt des Entwurfs liegt auf zirkulärem Bauen und Kreislaufwirtschaft. Tragwerke und Bauteile sind so konzipiert, dass sie bei einem Rückbau wiederverwendet oder recycelt werden können. Die modulare Holzhybridbauweise mit standardisierten,vorgefertigten Bauteilen erlaubt flexible Nutzung, reduziert Materialverbrauch und minimiert Abfall. Nachhaltige, natürliche und lokale Baustoffe sowie ReUse-Elemente aus den Industriehallen des Nordwestbahnhof-Areals werden gezielt integriert. Rückbaubarkeit und wiederverwendbare Konstruktionen bilden die Grundlage für langfristige Ressourcenschonung im Bauwesen und ermöglichen zukünftige Anpassungen und Erweiterungen.Die Gebäudeorganisation folgt einer klaren Abstufung von öffentlichen,halböffentlichen und privaten Bereichen, wodurch Wohnen, Arbeiten,Lernen und Freizeit sinnvoll verknüpft werden. Mehrzweckhalle,Markt, Suppenküche und gemeinschaftliche Einrichtungen fördern soziale Interaktion und Zusammenhalt. Grünflächen, Laubengänge und begrünte Dächer verbessern das Mikroklima und bieten Aufenthaltsräume für alle Nutzer_innen. Energieeffiziente technische Anlagen wie Photovoltaik, Wärmepumpen und Lüftungssysteme unterstützen die ökologische Nachhaltigkeit. So entsteht ein offenes,flexibles und ressourcenschonendes Quartier, das soziale Vielfalt,zirkuläre Bauweisen und nachhaltige Nutzungskonzepte in einem zukunftsfähigen Stadtraum vereint.

The project in Vienna’s 20th district, Brigittenau, is based on athorough analysis of the urban context, existing buildings, and socialstructures. Its goal is the development of an inclusive neighborhood that integrates social, ecological, and material sustainability, addressing the needs of people of different ages and lifestyles. At its heart lies a publicly accessible forum, serving as a spatial and social hub that encourages interaction, exchange, and communal use. The urbandesign of the three new buildings creates new pathways, open groundfloor areas, and generous public spaces, connecting the existing urbanfabric with the adjacent Grüne Mitte development.A key focus of the design is circular construction and resource-efficient building practices. Structural elements and components are conceived to allow reuse or recycling at the end of their life cycle. The modularhybrid timber construction with prefabricated, standardized elementsenables flexible use, reduces material consumption, and minimizes waste. Sustainable, natural, and locally sourced materials, along with ReUse elements from the former Nordwestbahnhof industrial halls, are carefully integrated. Demountable and reusable structures provide the foundation for long-term resource efficiency in construction and allow for future adaptation and expansion.The buildings are organized with a clear hierarchy of public, semipublic,and private spaces, integrating living, working, learning, and leisure. A multi-purpose hall, a market, a communal kitchen, and shared facilities foster social interaction and cohesion. Green spaces, loggias,and planted roofs improve the microclimate and provide areas for all users. Energy-efficient systems such as photovoltaics, heat pumps,and ventilation support ecological sustainability. Overall, the projectestablishes an open, flexible, and resource-conscious neighborhood that unites social diversity, circular construction practices, and sustainable use concepts within a future-oriented urban space.
