Die Straße als öffentlicher Raum

Abstract

NetzWerk ist aus dem Wunsch entstanden, einen niederschwelligen Zugang zu einem fehlenden Raum in der Stadt zu schaffen, damit gemeinsam, mit verschiedensten Menschen, Stadtgestalten möglich werden kann.Das dreiteilige Buch verbindet zwei theoretische Perspektiven – Die Straße als öffentlicher Raum und Bauen zwischen Architektur und Handwerk – mit dem zentralen Projekt NetzWerk, dessen Selbstbauprozess und Interventionen im öffentlichen Raum. Im Fokus stehen sowohl die handwerklichen als auch die sozialen Dimensionen der Architektur. Das Design-Build-Projekt besteht aus einem modularen Fahrradanhänger und ergänzenden Elementen, die sich zu variablen räumlichen Situationen zusammenfügen oder im Stadtraum verteilen lassen. Durch seine Mobilität ist NetzWerk in ganz Wien unterwegs und schafft temporäre Orte der Aneignung, Begegnung und Mitgestaltung. Neben dem Entwurf waren auch die Einholung öffentlicher Fördermittel, die Zusammenarbeit mit verschiedenen Kooperationspartner_innen sowie die Organisation und Umsetzung als Selbstbauprojekt zentrale Bestandteile dieser Arbeit. Mit seiner wandelbaren Struktur versteht sich NetzWerk als Möglichkeitsraum für immer neue Formate der Mitgestaltung und als Einladung zur Teilhabe. Über die Fertigstellung hinaus bleibt das Projekt als kollektives Werkzeug der Stadtgestaltung bestehen und eröffnet so langfristige Perspektiven für gemeinschaftliche urbane Entwicklungsprozesse.

NetzWerk emerged from the wish to create an easy access to a space in the city that was formerly missing, in ordert to enable future urban transformations in collaboration with a great variety of people. The three-part book combines two theoretical perspectives — The street as public space and building between architecture and craftsmanship — with the main project NetzWerk, its self-construction process and interventions in public space. The focus is on both, the craft and social dimensions of architecture. The design-build project consists of a modular bike trailer and additional elements that can be combined to create variable spatial situations or spread out across the urban space. Due to its mobility, NetzWerk roams all over Vienna, creating temporary places for people to appropriate, meet and participate in shaping their environment.In addition to the draft, key components of this work included sourcing public funding, collaborating with various partners and organizing and realizing the project as a self-build initiative. With its transformable structure, NetzWerk understands itself as a space of possibility for constantly new formats of co-creation and as an invitation to take part. Beyond its completion, the project remains a collective tool for urban development, opening up long-term perspectives for collaborative urban development processes.
