Abstract:
This paper describes ongoing experiences with the “digcity” project at Graz University of Technology (Austria/ Europe). “Digcity” is the creation of a city model with the help of students in the field of architecture and urban design. The main goal is not only the city model itself but also the educational experience for the students. The idea is to provide a better understanding of all aspects for the use of the model in being involved in its creation. Another main aspect of this project is to create sustainable and reusable data. In this contribution a summary of the whole project is presented. An outline of the project itself has been presented already in previous papers and presentations at ECAADE, ACADIA and CAADRIA conferences (Dokonal et.al., 2000 and 2001). These papers are summarized and updated for the SIGRADI members here. The second part of this paper focuses on future research work in this field based on discussions in the framework of the Helsinki ECAADE conference and invites all experts in this field to join the “Working Group” on city modeling which was established there.
