Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht den Eingang der Moschee als architektonische Schwelle zwischen Alltag und religiöser Praxis. Eingänge erfüllen nicht nur funktionale Aspekte, wie den Zugang zu einem Bauwerk, sondern tragen auch je nach Bautyp räumliche, symbolische und kulturelle Bedeutungen. Im Zentrum steht die Frage, welche Bedeutung Eingängen im islamischen Sakralbau zukommt und wie funktionale, symbolische und spirituelle Aspekte vermittelt werden. Ziel ist es, den Eingang nicht als bloßes Mittel zum Zugang zu sehen, sondern als eigenständigen Ort symbolischer und ritueller Vermittlung zu analysieren. Es werden im Anschluss drei Moscheen des 17. Jahrhunderts vergleichend analysiert. Darunter die Sultan-Ahmed-Moschee in Istanbul sowie die Scheich-Lotfollah-Moschee und die Imam-Moschee in Isfahan. Anhand dieser Beispiele werden unterschiedliche Ausformungen von Eingängen analysiert und ihre funktionalen, symbolischen und räumlichen Wirkungen herausgearbeitet. Die Arbeit zeigt, dass Eingänge in der Moscheearchitektur zentrale Träger architektonischer Ordnung und religiöser Vermittlung sind und wesentlich zur Raumerfahrung beitragen.

This thesis examines the entrance to the mosque as an architectural threshold between everyday life and religious practice. Entrances not only fulfill functional aspects, such as providing access to a building, but also carry spatial, symbolic and cultural meanings, depending on the type of building. The focus is on the question of the significance of entrances in Islamic sacred buildings and how functional, symbolic and spiritual aspects are conveyed. The aim is not to see the entrance as a mere means of access, but to analyze it as an independent place of symbolic and ritual mediation.Three 17th century mosques will then be analyzed comparatively. These include the Sultan-Ahmed-Mosque in Istanbul, the Sheikh-Lotfollah-Mosque and the Imam-Mosque in Isfahan. Based on these examples, different forms of entrances are analyzed and their functional, symbolic and spatial effects are worked out. The work shows that entrances in mosque architecture are central carriers of architectural order and religious mediation and contribute significantly to the spatial experience.
