Schiefergarten : auf dem Weg der Korrektur: eine räumlich-soziale Revitalisierung des historischen Gebäudeensembles "Gschirrhof" in Klosterneuburg.

Abstract

Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit widmet sich dem "Gschirrhof" des Stift Klosterneuburg, einem denkmalgeschützten Gebäudeensemble, das an das Stiftgelände grenzt und momentan größtenteils nicht genutzt wird. Die Auseinandersetzung mit den leerstehenden Räumlichkeiten, den vorhandenen Materialien und Gegebenheiten sowie den Spuren vergangener Nutzung eröffnete ein Blickfeld für das, was bereits da ist – und für das, was daraus entstehen könnte.Schon zu Beginn kam die Idee auf, die Revitalisierung des Ensembles mit einem sozialem Projekt zu verknüpfen. So soll die Instandsetzung der Gebäude nicht nur als architektonische Aufgabe, sondern als gemeinschaftlicher Prozess begriffen werden: Menschen, die an den Rand der Gesellschaft gedrängt wurden, sollen hier wohnen und die Aufgabe bekommen, tätig am Bauen im Be- stand mitwirken zu können. Geplant ist eine Umstrukturierung der bestehenden Wohnungen, die kombiniert mit dem Ausbau des Dachstuhls zu kleinen Maisonettes werden. Auch der Gewölbekeller wird in Wohneinheiten unterteilt, denen das Höhenspiel mit verschiedenen Ebenen und ein großzügiges Fenster den Gartenzugang ermöglicht. Außerdem bietet der Hof Raum für Werkstätten, eine Markthalle mit Galeriegeschoss, Gemeinschaftsräume, eine Kantine mit Gartenküche und die Administration im „Sattlerturm“.Leitgedanke der Arbeit ist dabei die „Korrektur“, nicht als ein Auslöschen des Vorhandenen, sondern aufmerksames Weiterbauen und präzises Ergänzen. Korrektur wird hier zum Akt der Fürsorge – gegenüber dem gebauten Raum sowie den Mitmenschen. Die theoretische Grundlage für diesen Leitgedanken bilden zwei Perspektiven aus Theologie und Philosophie ab, die sich mit der ökologisch und sozialen Verantwortung der Gesellschaft und des Einzelnen befassen. Schließlich begreift sich der Entwurf als Möglichkeit, durch behutsame Eingriffe Bestehendes zu bewahren und zugleich eine neue Richtung mit der Korrektur gebauter und sozialer Umwelt einzuschlagen.

The thesis is about a listed ensemble of buildings adjacent to the grounds of Klosterneuburg Abbey, most of which is currently unused. Examining the vacant premises, the existing materials and conditions, and the traces of past use opened up a perspective on what is already there – and what could be created from it. Right from the start, there was the idea to link the revitalisation of the complex with a social project. The restoration of the buildings should therefore be understood not only as an architectural task, but as a collaborative process: people who have been marginalised by society should live here and be given the task of actively participating in the construction work. The aim is to restructure the existing apartments, which, combined with the conversion of the attic space, will be transformed into small duplexes. The vaulted cellar will also be divided into residential units, featuring a variety of levels and a large window providing access to the garden. In addition, the buildings offer space for workshops, a market hall with a gallery level, common areas, a cafeteria with an outdoor kitchen, and administrative offices in the “Sattlerturm.”The guiding principle of the work is „Korrektur“, not as the erasure of what already exists, but as attentive further construction and precise supplementation. Korrektur here becomes an act of care – towards the built space as well as towards fellow human beings. The theoretical basis for this guiding principle is formed by two perspectives from theology and philosophy that deal with the ecological and social responsibility of society and the individual. Ultimately, the design proposal sees itself as an opportunity to preserve what already exists through careful intervention and, at the same time, to strike out in a new direction by correcting the built and social environment.
