Kostolani, D. (2026, May 13). Ergo4All, an open-source AI app for ergonomics prevention [Conference Presentation]. Open Science Day 2026, Wien, Austria. https://doi.org/10.34726/12259
Awkward postures and industrial tasks such as heavy lifting are contributory factors in the development of work-related musculoskeletal disorders. While ergonomics is widely recognised as a means to improve working conditions, research on ergonomic methods and AI systems often prioritizes the needs of researchers and analysts. This creates an accessibility gap and a mismatch between prevention goals and the impact of technology research. The research project Ergo4A addresses the gap between university research and accessible technology artifacts aimed at the general public. The project produced an AI app for postural assessment that is freely available in app repositories, with its code open-sourced*. This talk discusses tensions in translating technology research into tools that meaningfully serve people, while highlighting opportunities that emerge from such initiatives aligned with the motto "technology for people".
