Abstract:

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a software-based approach for the planning, construction, and operation of various types of structures. At its core is a model enriched with all relevant information about the structure, which is made available throughout its entire lifecycle.Common Data Environments (CDEs) are digital platforms designed to support collaboration among the various stakeholders in BIM projects by providing a centralised location for data exchange, establishing corresponding processes, and offering additional tools. This master's thesis examines 14 specific implementations of CDEs or model collaboration systems and presents a comprehensive analysis of their practical application. To this end, existing research findings and standards are first introduced, from which requirements for CDEs are derived. Subsequently, the collected data is structured thematically and described in a comparative manner. The results of this work provide insights into the architecture, functionalities, and interoperability of the evaluated systems. Furthermore, organisational aspects such as licensing models, support, and current trends are also examined.
