Erhalt und Erneuerung : die nachhaltige Revitalisierung der Schlossruine Pottendorf

Abstract

Ziel dieser Diplomarbeit ist es, die Schlossruine Pottendorf in Niederösterreich im Kontext von Denkmalpflege, Bestandserhaltung und nachhaltiger Revitalisierung zu untersuchen. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Frage, wie der historisch bedeutende Ruinenbestand gesichert, lesbar gemacht und behutsam für eine zeitgemäße Nutzung erschlossen werden kann, ohne seinen Charakter als Ruine zu verlieren. Grundlage der Arbeit bilden die Analyse der baugeschichtlichen Entwicklung, des heutigen Bestands sowie der denkmalpflegerischen Rahmenbedingungen. Dazu werden historische Quellen, Plan- und Archivunterlagen, frühere Untersuchungen sowie eigene Beobachtungen vor Ort ausgewertet. Die daraus gewonnenen Erkenntnisse werden mit zentralen Grundsätzen der Baudenkmalpflege wie Substanzerhalt, Reversibilität und Ablesbarkeit neuer Eingriffe verknüpft.Darauf aufbauend wird ein Revitalisierungskonzept entwickelt, das die Ruine nicht rekonstruiert, sondern als historischen Ort erfahrbar macht. Gezielte Sicherungsmaßnahmen, ein neues System aus Stegen, Brücken und Treppen, ausgewählte Wetterschutzmaßnahmen sowie begrenzte Nutzungsbereiche ermöglichen Besichtigung, Vermittlung und punktuelle Veranstaltungen im Bestand.

The aim of this diploma thesis is to examine the castle ruin of Pottendorf in Lower Austria in the context of monument conservation, preservation of existing historic fabric, and sustainable revitalisation. The central question is how this historically significant ruin can be secured, made legible, and carefully opened for contemporary use without losing its character as a ruin.The thesis is based on an analysis of the building's historical development, its current condition, and the relevant principles of monument conservation. Historical sources, plans and archival documents, previous studies, and observations made on site are evaluated. The findings are linked to key conservation principles such as the preservation of historic substance, reversibility, and the clear readability of new interventions.Based on this research, a revitalisation concept is developed that does not aim to reconstruct the ruin, but rather to make it accessible and experienceable as a historic place. Targeted conservation measures, a new system of walkways, bridges and stairs, selected protective roof structures, and limited areas for use enable visits, interpretation, and occasional events within the existing ruin.
