The presented project proposes a hybrid urban structure at Gare d’Austerlitz in Paris, acting as a spatial structure that is mediating between the railway infrastructure, city fabric, and surrounding urban fragments. The starting point is the triangular construction site with a field dimension of 30.813 m2 which is defined by existing infrastructural elements and urban conditions.A superordinate orthogonal grid, derived from the orientation of the adjacent hospital complex, provides spatial order within the heterogeneous urban context. The grid dimension of 20 × 25 m is selected for its high spatial flexibility, allowing subdivision into smaller modules of 2.5 m and 1.25 m and thus enables an adaptable and long-term use. The grid primarily functions as an organizational and structural reference system. The architectural form emerges through an abductive process, in which an initial urban mass is intersected and terraced in response to circulation, daylight, and urban relationships. This results in a passable urban landscape that is subdivided by the terraces, publicly accessible and integrates housing, workspaces, education, and leisure within a continuous spatial structure. The building operates as a hybrid urban structure, mediating between the infrastructural measure of the railway station and the human measure of the city. Terracing creates accessible public spaces at multiple levels and establishes spatial continuity from the ground to the roof. A sustainable structural and material strategy supports long-term adaptability and resource efficiency.
