Abstract:

The area around the Nordwestbahnhof in Vienna is set to This diploma thesis explores the development of an art and cultural center in the area surrounding the Nordwestbahnhof in Vienna and examines its role as a cultural catalyst within a rapidly transforming urban development district. The area around the Nordwestbahnhof is characterized by increasing density and numerous new construction projects, yet it currently offers only limited cultural infrastructure. This creates the opportunity to establish cultural spaces as an integral part of sustainable and community-oriented urban development. The thesis focuses on the question of how architecture can promote cultural participation, social interaction, and collective identity. The aim of the project is to create an open art and cultural center that serves as a meeting place for both the local neighborhood and visitors while providing space for cultural exchange. Art, culture, public space, and community are interconnected and form the basis of the architectural concept.Based on an analysis of the development area, an urban and architectural concept is developed that strengthens the relationship between culture and urban life. Particular attention is given to the integration of public and semi-public spaces that enable diverse uses and social interaction. The thesis demonstrates the potential of cultural infrastructure as an identity-forming and connective element within emerging urban districts and proposes a spatial vision for a vibrant and inclusive environment at the Nordwestbahnhof.
