Abstract:
This presentation demonstrates the application and integration of an industrial Standalone (SA) Private 5G Campus Network (3590–3690 MHz, Hutchison Drei Austria) at the TU Wien IFT TEC-Lab for smart manufacturing, autonomous mobile robotics, and dark factory concepts, presented to ENGEL Austria GmbH. The showcase focuses on the GigaBot project featuring a DMG MORI WH-AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot equipped with an Ensenso N46 3D stereo camera, FANUC CRX-20iA/L cobot arm, Keyence PLC, and NVIDIA Thor shared edge compute). Real-time teleoperation is achieved via a responsive Angular/WebRTC browser interface over ROS 2 middleware and FastDDS, enabling sub-10 ms round-trip communication and spatial 3D point cloud streaming. Furthermore, real-time CNC machine and process monitoring (ProfiTrainer) over 5G and Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) are showcased, highlighting latency guarantees, network slicing, and safety-rated wireless operation for supervised autonomy in production.
