The master thesis focuses on the Information Requirements from a planner's point of view and the provision of product information from the manufacturer’s perspective in the building industry. It is particularly important for manufacturers to know what information; performance characteristics or key figures must be made available for their offered products and in which project phase specific requirements are mandatory. But it is also important to know, how the information exchange works between the different stakeholders. The application of the Building Information Modeling also referred to as Building Information Management method offers an efficient methodology and gives structure to solve complex tasks. Especially in the construction industry, many individual steps and processes are still handled manually without the use of digital information systems. Existing processes, information and data exchange must therefore be transformed away from paper towards a digital model. The challenge of digital transformation is multi-layered and very complex. Different stakeholders, project specific criteria’s, processes and the different project phases are all factors that need to be considered during the digital transformation process. The management of data is the foundation of supplying and exchanging information throughout the project life cycle.Experience from recent years has shown that a structured approach establishes a robust fundament for the future digital data exchange. The key questions are: For what is the information needed and where does it come from? The structure for providing information can be made available in the form of a data template. This enables the development of standards for integrating information into the model. It is particularly important to consider all possible eventualities and project phases to obtain a comprehensive collection of information. As a result, the digital model will grow over the lifecycle and will be enriched with more and more information over the project lifecycle. In summary, it can be stated the digitalization in the construction industry is still at a very early stage of development. Therefore, it allows a wide range of adaptability and influence. It is always recommended to start with digital structuring of internal processes. All partners alongside the project lifecycle need to commit to digitalize all processes without any doubts. All stakeholders must recognize that the digital transformation offers significant benefits and can contribute to complete projects more quickly, more efficiently and with less resources. It will also have positive effect on optimizing costs and save money on the long-term.
