Abstract:
In this thesis, simulations of the general circulation of idealized Earth and Venus atmosphere with the newly developed dynamical core DYNAMICO are carried out. Its angular momentum budget is investigated. Numerical models solving the Navier-Stokes equations may have purely numerical, spurious sources of angular momentum. The magnitude of these terms must be small in comparison to the physical terms of the budget for the simulations to be credible. In the case of the idealized Earth configuration, the angular momentum budget of DYNAMICO was found to be satisfying. However, the situation is more complex on Venus, where it is not easily possible to evaluate the impact of the numerical errors on the global circulation obtained.
