Lorünsers Erben : Fabrikbauten in Vorarlberg: Sanierung der Wollfabrik Lorünsers Erben

Abstract

Vorarlberg besitzt eine Reihe alter Fabrikbauten, vor allem aus dem Bereich der Textilindustrie. So ragen in der alten Gewerbezone im Oberdorf von Nüziders zwei alte Firmengebäude, umgeben von Wohnhäusern, hervor - die Lorünser Schafwollwarenfabrik. Das jüngere Gebäude des Ensembles wurde 1931 vom Bregenzer Architekt Willibald Braun entworfen. Es gilt als eines der wenigen Beispiele der frühen Moderne in Vorarlberg. Auff allend ist vor allem die Horizontalgliederung der Fenster, ein Detail ganz im Stil des Bauhaus. Dieses Gebäude wurde von 2002 bis 2004 komplett saniert und es entstand eine Reihe neuer Loft-Wohnungen, deren Raumhöhe ein modernes Wohnklima ermöglicht. Das zweite Bauwerk auf dem ehemaligen Firmengelände ist momentan ungenutzt. Außerdem wird die Instandhaltung des Gebäudekomplexes off ensichtlich seit Jahren vernachlässigt. So wird dieses technische Denkmal entweder ungenutzt bleiben oder abgebrochen werden. Ziel der Arbeit ist neben der Analyse der historischen Entwicklung der Vorarlberger Textilindustrie eine Bestandsaufnahme sowie die Ausarbeitung eines Masterplans für die Nachnutzung des Areals.

Vorarlberg domiciles several old factory buildings, which are heritage of the once fl ourishing textile industry in the region. Two old factory buildings still stand in what used to be the industrial zone of the village of Nüziders. Today the old Lorünser cloth factory is surrounded by nothing but residential buildings. Willibald Braun, an architect from Bregenz, designed the most recent building of the ensemble in 1931. It is considered to be one of the few examples of early modernism in Vorarlberg. Especially striking is the horizontal arrangement of the windows, a typical characteristic of the Bauhaus style. Th is building was completely renovated from 2002 to 2004. Today it contains a number of new loft apartments. Th e high ceilingsare one of the features that allow for creating a modern living environment. Th e second building on the former industrial area is currently unused and has been neglected for several years. It is likely that this technical monument will continue to stay empty or be pulled down altogether. Aside from the analysis of the historic importance of the textile industry in Vorarlberg this thesis aims to develop an inventoryanalysis of the old factory building and subsequently a master plan for the future use of the site.
