The objective of this thesis is the design for a new building for the Museum of Republika Srpska. The site is located in the center of Banja Luka, the second largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The museum will be at the center of a triangle of mayor important structures including a Roman fortress, a mosque and an Orthodox church. This historic and cultural ensemble creates a strong but challenging task to connect the museum to its site. The foundation for the new design is to develop a building purpose built to function as a museum as well as improve upon the lack of exhibition space. The current museum is located nearby the site in the house of solidarity (Dom Radnicke Solidarnosti). The new museum will fit specifically in the area to react with directional visual relationships. There are strong spatial relationships of the exhibition areas to the urban environment. Banja Luka, an economically emerging city after the Bosnian war, hopes to develop a new identity through elaborate construction while still trying to preserve its rich history and the traces of the many conquerors that have ruled there. The design of this thesis for the Museum of Republika Sprska, is to enrich this rapidly advancing urban development.
