Mit dem Abschluss der Schule beginnt in der Regel die Phase des Studierens und meist stellt dieser Zeitpunkt den Auszug aus dem Haus der Eltern dar. Die Wohngemeinschaft ist dabei in keiner anderen Lebensphase so populär wie während des Studiums. Ich muss gestehen: Während meiner ganzen Studienzeit habe ich nie in einem Studentenwohnheim gewohnt. Die Wohnheime, in den ein paar meiner Studienkollegen Innen untergebracht waren, machten auf mich einen nicht erstrebenswerten Eindruck. Nicht das Sie annehmen ich hätte einen zu hohen Anspruch gehabt, aber der Platzmangel, geringe Individualräume und unzugängliche Bewohner wirkten auf mich nicht gerade einladend. Auch meinen Kollegen Innen ging es ähnlich, darum zogen sie spätestens nach zwei Semestern in eine WG. Lediglich der nahe Standort zu den Universitäten und die günstige Mietpreislage, haben die Studentenwohnheime anfangs attraktiv wirken lassen. Da die Höreranzahl der Studierenden laut Statistiken in den nächsten Jahren ansteigen wird, ist die Nachfrage nach einem Wohnort für Studierende nach wie vor da. Im Zuge meiner Arbeit habe ich mich mit dem Bautypus des temporären Wohnens für Studierende als auch für nicht Studierende auseinandergesetzt. Die Veränderung der Raumqualität, des Platzbedarfs und des Komfort im Wandel der Zeit wurde zum Thema meines Entwurfes. Der Entwurf richtet sich speziell an Studierende und auch an Menschen die sich auf eine temporäre Zeit ein zu Hause suchen. Mir war es wichtig aufzuzeigen, das die Kombination aus Kleinapartments und studentischem Wohnen sich gut vereinen lässt. Während meiner Planung, schenkte ich dem Aspekt der Kommunikation zwischen den Studierenden viel Bedeutung, da in einigen schon vorhandenen Studentenwohnheimen kaum Begegnungszonen oder Gemeinschaftsräume berücksichtigt wurden. Aber wie schafft man den schmalen Grad zwischen Privatsphäre und Gemeinschaft zu vereinen? Der tatsächliche Trend, geht daher vielmehr in eine Richtung, die man als "Living together apart" bezeichnen könnte. Der ideale Wohnraum der Zukunft sollte für mich eine Balance finden zwischen Kommunikation und Rückzug. Ideal wäre, eine Wohngemeinschaft, die zum einen von sozialer Durchmischung, Kommunikation und Offenheit lebt, zum anderen aber den Wunsch nach Abgrenzung und Rückzug respektiert. In meinem Entwurf wird ein Lebensumfeld geschaffen, dass in hohem Maße dem menschlichen Bedürfnis nach Gemeinschaft aber auch nach persönlicher Autonomie gerecht werden kann. Vor allem Gemeinschaftseinrichtungen sorgen für eine Durchmischung unterschiedlicher Gruppen und bieten die Möglichkeit ein Zusammengehörigkeitsgefühl zu fördern.

The high school graduation marks an important point in most young peoples lives. This is usually the time when they move out of there parent`s house for the first time to start studying. In this phase of life the shared living is very popular. I must confess: Throughout my studies I have never lived in a student dorm. But the impressions of the dormitories some of my colleagues lived in were not too good at all. Please do not think that my expectations have been too high, but the lack of space and the small individual rooms in combination with the sometimes unapproachable inhabitants did not look very inviting to me. Being based around universities and offering a cheap rent are the only attractive aspects of of dormitories. According to latest statistics the number of students and therewith the demand for student residences will increase within the next years. In the course of my master thesis I dealt with the typology of temporary housing for students and non students. The main topic of my thesis is how required standards of the inhabitants regarding the ambient quality, the space requirements and the feeling of comfort, changes through time. The project tries to meet the demands of students and people looking for a temporary home. The aim is to show that the combination of small apartments and student housing works very well together. In the dormitories I visited the meeting points and public areas have often been a neglected point, that's why I gave priority to the aspect of communication between students in my design. But how to keep the balance between privacy and community? The actual trend is moving towards a direction that could be described as "Living together apart". The ideal concept of the future could be defined as a room offering both: open communication spaces and the possibility to withdraw to the individual place. It would be perfect to create a shared living that on the one hand is based on the concept of social mixing, communication and openness, and on the other hand respects the individual`s desire to withdraw. In my design I created a living environment that fulfills the social demand of community, offering at the same time the possibility to reatreat into individual rooms. Especially the community facilities are ensuring that different groups can get in touch with each other and therefore create a sense of togetherness.
