Abandoned properties and fallow sites are constantly debated subjects and concern big metropolises just as the smallest municipalities. The question of its re-use and how best to implement often flows into a long process of organizing, designing, calculating, financing and realizing these project ideas. It becomes interesting the more a project stands in public interest and when a significant culture historical value is given to it. This thesis deals with one of the largest baroque fortifications in Croatia. Starting with the historical facts I continue with its current state and end with a variation of its reuse. Built at the former frontier between the Ottoman Empire and the Habsburg Empire this fortress in Slavonski Brod stands out as a result to have been nearly 300 years for military purposes and to be part of the urban public space only since 1994. This is an area of more than 350.000 square meters within the historical city centre that suddenly becomes available. During the last 24 years only a little part of the fortress was revitalized, however, at the same time several analyses and project ideas were created on which this work is based. To grasp this fortress, which was appointed
