Hamann, C. (2017).

Megatrends currently occurring in the world include globalization, digitization, social and demographic changes, transfer from an industrial to a knowledge-based society and the scarcity of energy and resources. These trends create challenges for companies and the response requires organizational adaptations. Many possible forms of organization can be considered which could be a combination of various primary, secondary and supplementary structures. This diversity makes organizational analysis difficult since many advantages and disadvantages have to be weighed up. The aim of this master's thesis is to develop a selection of criteria that can be used to find the optimal organizational form for a company. In turn, this will facilitate organizational analysis. The information contained in this thesis can benefit companies that want to carry out an organizational analysis. The findings can also stimulate further discussion and academic research in this topic. This master's thesis is therefore concerned with the following research question: Which criteria must be met by organizational forms in order to optimally meet current and future company requirements? The research process behind this master's thesis is divided into a theoretical and an empirical area. In the theoretical part, current and future challenges for companies were identified. By means of systematic literature review and qualitative content analysis, criteria were then worked out theoretically. In the empirical part of the study, problem-centered interviews were conducted with personnel from three Aus-trian companies. The information was evaluated to further refine the research results. The results of the theoretical and empirical investigations contributed to a final selection of criteria for investigating organizational forms. The research process clarified that criteria must always be reconciled with the current situation in a company and that adding or swapping criteria to suit specific cases is justified. The company context such as industry, size or specific challenges must always be taken into account in conjunction with a successful organizational form in organizational analysis. A significant correlation between the success of a company and its organizational form has also been established.
