Abstract:

Due to the complexities in terms of geometry and geological conditions, conventional methods of computation quickly reach their limits. If other influences are present (e.g. installations and other inhomogeneities), a calculation with finite element programs is almost inevitable. In the course of the planning of a storage basin, a dam of about 40 m height (AFRD) is to be designed or calculated as the final embankment. Among other things, this master thesis deals with the related stability and deformation calculations. The basics and theories of the numerical calculations are explained, as well as the detailed analysis and evaluation of the calculation results from the FE program GeoStudio 2007. Due to the determined forces and deformations from the dam static calculation, a collector was modeled and designed statically in the FE program Infograph. This thesis considers also the material laws, which are optimized for the calculation of granular materials. The physical background of the rockfill material is also explained and an overview of the existing knowledge is given.
