This thesis- topic will be the trainstation in the Hungarian city Tatabanya and it-s near environment. There is this metapher that the trainstation may be the business card of a city. That's the reason why in my opinion the first impression 'counts'. But because of my hungarian descent there was another aspect, which seemed really interesting to me: The purpose of redesigning the trainstation may not only be a pleasant arrival for travellers, also citizens of Tatabanya should feel comfortable (again). Because of the fact that I-m living in Vienna for almost 10 years now, I can look at this topic in a differentiated way. While using the trainconnection between Vienna and Tatabanya several times each year, the problems of this urban space in terms of public transport conveyed. So this was the reason I choosed this topic for my thesis, eventhough the complexity of this project wasn't obvious at that time. After a more precise consideration of the trainstation area and it's environment it was obvious that there were several problems which needed to be solved: Of a urban building perspective there was the goal to reunite the two seperated districts. At the moment the big cement-areas still exacerbate the daily routine of the passengers. This space should not only connect areal but bring together the inhabitans of both districs, which is highly needed at the moment. Because eventhough the trainstation is quite near to the citycenter, it can only be reached quite inconveniently. On the other hand there are some circumstances directly at the trainstation, which lost some of it's meaning over the years. For example there is a indoor market with closed shops by now. While they were really successful in die 1980ies and earyl 1990ies, the mall in walking distance caused their extinction. Because of that fact it came clear to me, that the trainstation needed to get back to it's natural purpose and should not serve as a shopping center. Further questions were revealed by missing parking spaces, unused public green spaces, poor connected paths to the public bus system and the missing freedom from barriers. As part of my researches and first drafts it came clear to me that the several challenges in this area could not be solved by simply redesign the local trainstation...
