Abstract:

The sudden occurrence of faults in electrical machines can cause substantial damages and enormous costs. Due to their site of operation in wind power plants, faults in double fed induction machines particularly can be even more cost-intensive. But also in other systems a breakdown can lead to high costs and safety problems. So, it is a matter of interest to detect faults as soon as possible and shut down the plant or parts of it if necessary. The most common faults in induction machines are bearing faults and winding faults. There are several ways of detecting faults. To increase reliability, methods which do not need additional sensors have to be preferred. In this thesis it will be shown how stator winding faults and rotor winding faults of a double fed induction machine can be detected by transient excitation. In this, no sensors in addition to the already existing current and voltage sensors are needed. Single faults are implemented to the windings of the stator and rotor and detected. Differently sever faults are simulated to find out detection limit. Also the impact of several machine parameters as the load, the active/reactive power or the rotational speed is are analyzed.
