Deep vibro compaction was investigated in large-scale experimental field tests. Within these in-situ tests, the seismic cone penetration test was successfully applied to evaluate the shear wave velocity profile in the non-compacted and the compacted sandy gravel. On this test site complementary DPH tests were performed. Additionally, the influence of different process parameters on the compaction effect in the ground was investigated by conventional cone penetration tests performed in non-saturated uniform sand. The paper presents the concept of the research project briefly, wherein the importance of the in-situ tests is highlighted. Furthermore, test results are shown and discussed.
