dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
This thesis deals with the optimal investment control of the free surplus of an insurance company. The surplus process is modelled via the classical Cramér-Lundberg risk process perturbed by a Brownian Motion. The insurer has the possibility to invest the surplus in a risky asset and in a risk free asset. A distinction is made between two cases: In the constrained case there are contraints set for the investment in the risky asset, whereas in the unconstrained case the insurer is free to invest as much as it wants and short selling is permitted. In both settings the existence of a solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation is proven and it is shown that the minimal ruin probability function is such a solution. What is also of major interest is the asymptotic behaviour of the optimal investment control and the minimal ruin probability for low surplus levels, because in this model they are generally not analytically calculable. Under the specific assumption of exponential distributed claims additional statements about the asymptotic behaviour for large surplus levels can be made. Lastly, on the basis of two specific examples possible courses of the optimal control under different assumptions are presented.
