Abstract:
This master’s thesis examines the usage of gamification and serious games in the space of smartphone apps focusing on privacy related topics. It describes the process from finding a space and application context to designing and programming the app and finishes with a study and an analysis of the prototype. The effectiveness of the prototype gets measured with two questionnaires and conducting three interviews. The findings of this work show that educating about privacy through a serious game is possible. Further it highlights that educating is only the first step in solving privacy related issues and has to be investigated further on how those problems can be solved. Finishing with laying down ideas based on the feedback received on the prototype and study, about how those issues could possibly be solved.
