Abstract:
This project is concerned with the possibility of LNG distribution by inland navigation and use as fuel in central Europe. As a Starting point the effects of different transport modes on the environment have been evaluated. The transport by train and by truck has been compared with the transport on the following 3 types of inland navigation vessels. 1. Self propelled liquid cargo vessel (tanker) with a capacity of 2000 tons. 2. Convoy consisting of a pushboat and two not self-propelled push barges with a capacity of 3000 tons 3. Convoy consisting of a pushboat and four not self-propelled push barges with a capacity of close to 6000 tons. For this part of the thesis the exhaust gas emissions and the transport costs have been compared. The area of exhaust gases subdivides into nonpoisonous greenhouse gases, like CO2 and the limited toxic gases, in this work NOx, SO2, and particle Emissions are considered.
