Abstract:
To ensure thermal comfort for passengers in metro vehicles, the entire HVAC system (Heating, Ventilation and Air Condition) is calculated and optimized using numerical simulations. Movable weather protection flaps are installed in the air ventilation channel system. These open or close the channel depending on the pressure difference between the interior of a carriage and the environment, thus ensuring the extraction of air while at the same time protecting the interior of a train from the ingress of the dust. Since the motion of the flap is affected by the fluid motion, we speak here of Fluid- Structure-Interaction.This present study focuses on the analysis of the interaction between the channel air flow and the above-mentioned-flap. In general, for such fluid-structure-interaction problems, both the equations of flap motion as well as the equations of fluid dynamics must be solved (simultaneously or successively). In this thesis, we show that the FSI simulation within CFD-Software is not necessary for computation of steady states. The calculation of the characteristic curves for the two, the pressure loss coefficient and drag moment coefficient for steady flow with given flap position, gives sufficient results for steady operating conditions of the flap. The entire approach to the problem of the flap behavior within the air ventilation channel is discussed in the introduction part. In the second chapter of the thesis, the equations of motion for a solid and the basic equations for an incompressible flow are presented. Some appropriate modeling approaches to FSI applications are described. In addition, there are descriptions of some models for the treatment of turbulent flows. With the assumption of a fixed flap, the series of 2D and 3D stationary simulations are carried out in the third chapter of the thesis in order to determine the pressure drop curve and the flow moments acting on the rigid flap. Characteristic curves for the steady-state condition of the flap are determined by the help of non-dimensional values. Furthermore, a transient analysis on stability and vibrations of the flap motion is conducted. The natural frequency of the flap is found to be three times lower than the vortex-shedding frequency. It could be found from the behavior of the flap in the full FSI simulation that the flap actually undergoes the vortex-induced vibrations. The decay of the flap motion in the vertical direction is represented by a damped spring-mass model. In the final chapter, the conclusion and outlook of the thesis are discussed.
