Suritsch, N. (2013).
This thesis deals with the occurrence of corruption from the perspective of game theory. After giving a short overview of the basics of game theory and elaborating on the extent to which it may enhance our understanding of this phenomenon, the principal-agent theory, a sub-theory that is being applied here, will be explained. The next section defines and describes corruption along with its root causes and possible impacts on society. The main part, then, outlines various mathematical models that equally operate from different basic assumptions in attempting to grasp its occurrence and partly also advocate countermeasures. On this basis, the last part makes some critical remarks on these concepts while emphasizing their differences and similarities.
