Abstract:
Magnetic bearings represent a non-contact alternative to classic ball bearings in the suspension of rotors. However, active magnetic bearing systems are unstable systems, which is why control is required. To stabilize the rotor, the rotor position must be known. However, external sensors for position measurement are often fault-prone and expensive. In this work the behavior of a sensorless COG control on an active magnetic bearing system is examined. The individual degrees of freedom of the rotor are stabilized in a center of gravity coordinate system. The rotor position is recorded indirectly in the magnetic bearing coils via an INFORM (Indirect Flux detection by Online Reactance Measurement) based method. So far, sensorless control has only been carried out with a separate converter per radial bearing due to the high demands on hardware and software. In contrast, with the COG control, all magnetic bearings in the system are controlled centrally. Therefore it is necessary to use the specified resources of the converter as efficiently as possible. In addition to the precise description of the COG control including sensorless position measurement, the implementation is also examined more closely. The sensorless COG control is examined in various measurements on a magnetic bearing system and compared with additional external sensors. The measurements show that the implemented sensorless COG control for the magnetic bearing system used meets the ISO 14839-3 standard and that both position measurements provide equivalent results for all measurements.
