Younas, M. Y. (2015). Integrating lightweight structures in BIM [Master Thesis, Technische Universität Wien]. reposiTUm. http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12708/79693
The main objectives of this thesis were (1) to introduce the concept of Building information modeling in lightweight engineering as it applies to the construction industry; (2) To review the industrial and academic efforts of implementation of BIM in construction industry; (3) to identify the roadblocks obstructing to the extension of its usage; (4), to suggest some ways to expand its usage in membrane structures. With these objectives in view, the thesis explains, in the first place, the concept and methodology of Building Information Modeling as it applies to the construction industry. By reviewing the literature, and collecting construction and operation data from the local lightweight industry through five years- experience, it is determined that the Building Information Modeling has experienced extraordinary growth in recent times. Current projections suggest continued growth of BIM should also be applied in membrane industry and increased understanding of Building Information Modeling will help in its successful implementation.
