Efficient determination of the contact-specific Jacobian in an oil film lubricated clearance gap based on a reduced order model of the Reynolds equation

Abstract

In dieser Arbeit wird ein reduziertes Modell der Reynoldsgleichung basierend auf der Flat Galerkin-Methode für den Ölfilm im Schmierspalt eines Radialgleitlagers angewendet. Das Ziel hierbei ist die effiziente Berechnung der kontaktspezifischen Jacobi-Matrix, welche die Interaktion zwischen dem Achszapfen und der Schale des Lagers beschreibt und die während der Gleitlagersimulation für ein Newton-Raphson-Verfahren benötigt wird. Das reduzierte Modell nutzt die Annahme einer periodischen Anregung und in dessen Folge einer periodischen allgemeinen Form der Drucklösung aus. Mittels Singularwertzerlegung von verfügbaren Ergebnissen eines vorhergehenden Verbrennungszyklus werden Ansatzfunktionen für das Galerkin-Verfahren erzeugt. Das Anwendungspotential des Berechnungsverfahrens wird anhand eines Hauptlagers eines Verbrennungsmotors mit typischen Dimensionen dargestellt. Als Ausblick zeigt diese Arbeit ebenso eine Modifikation des Broyden Update-Algorithmus als mögliche Alternative zu der wiederholten Berechnung der Jacobi-Matrix.

In this thesis a Flat Galerkin reduced order model of the universal Reynolds equation for the oil film lubricated clearance gap of a radial slider bearing of an internal combustion engine will be applied for the efficient determination of the contact-specific Jacobian matrix. This matrix describes the interaction of the journal and the shell of the bearing. The reduced order model takes advantage of the assumption of a periodic excitation and as a result a periodic general shape of the pressure solution. By applying singular value decomposition on available results from a reference simulation of one combustion cycle using a multi-body dynamic and full elastohydrodynamic coupling an appropriate projection basis for the Flat Galerkin method can be generated. The fourth main bearing of an internal combustion engine is selected as an example to show the potential of the computational implementation incorporating the present method. In addition, this paper presents a modified Broyden update algorithm as an alternative to the recurrent calculation of the joint Jacobian matrix.
