Abstract:
In the New Economy period in the late 1990s a lot of companies used the revolutionary technology of the Internet to provide their ideas and products in a completely new way. The expression business model became more and more famous. What occurs as an issue is the fact, that the expression is defined in many different ways throughout the literature. The range covers from just a small idea to a fully established business plan. As the economic process of the last years has shown, a focus on product- and process innovations is not enough in order to built a successful company over a long period of time. You have to focus on the actual experience you have, instead of the technical facts of the product itself. This study provides an insight into various business models: priority objective is to define the expression, as well as explaining the meaning and advantages of business models. Even though a company has a well-established business model, there may occur problems in the future. The reason is the on-going competition as well as the homogenization of the product portfolio. It necessitates a business model innovation. Therefore this master-s thesis introduces a business model innovation process. As an example for this thesis, the motorsport supplier Pankl Drivetrain Systems GmbH & Co KG went through parts of the described innovation process, developed an analysis of the current state, used a creativity technique and started to create a business model prototype.
