Usually, the firm offering the lowest price in combination with the highest quality is chosen for the realization of construction projects. However, those two criteria are often in conflict with each other. Hence, possibilities to decrease costs without abstaining from high-quality products are searched. In addition to material costs, salaries and related personnel costs (for both employees working at the site and in the plant) are one of the main cost drivers in construction projects. A possible approach would be to reduce work steps - e.g. having a permanent formwork instead of a normal formwork makes shuttering and the production of a suitable, processable surface unnecessary. Permanent fromworks are forming elements which are pre-fabricated and filled with concrete after its erection directly at the site. The elements compound with the concrete and are then left at the site. In connection with product quality, also new alternatives are looked for in order to improve cost efficiency in the production process. In this respect, the sustainability of the used raw material and the recyclability of reused products become more and more important. The company Cetris produces cement-bonded wood fiberboards which consist of 60 percent by volume of wood - a sustainable, renewable and above all natural raw material. Those boards also contain cement, water and less than 2% of chemical substances. A recyclate resulting from the production waste consisting of cement and chipped wood is also added during the production process of the boards. Because of their attributes these boards are used for permanent formwork. Unfortunately the formwork boards show cases of damage, like a spalling of the boards from the concrete, which leads to cavities within the structural element. This diploma thesis aims at examining these damages and their causes and tries to propose solutions for them. The consumption mechanical characteristics in reliance with the formworks humidity were evaluated on cube samples by a method, known as Wedge Splitting Test and was conducted as described in ÖNORM B 3592 This diploma thesis aims at expanding the existing research 'Verbunduntersuchungsstudie zum Einsatz von zementgebundenen Holzfaserplatten als verlorene Schalung in Kombination mit selbstverdichtendem Beton' which was done in the same field and primarily focused on results by additionally dealing with the recording of measured values during the hardening phase of the concrete samples. The underlying idea is, to systematically observe the relative humidity of the material during the hardening process and to study its correlation to the measurement results (ie. the fracture mechanic values) obtained from the wedge-splitting method. This allows us to gain insights into the impacts of slab humidity on the strength of the material and also on the compound structure. The results showed that areas of the fiberboards with a higher humidity bond better with the concrete. A further approach presented in this paper is the bang detection via spring-loaded condenser microphones. In this case, the main concept is that the spalling inside of a formwork-concrete compound is accompanied by a clearly audible noise.
