Koller, D. (2012). Denkmal. Was nun?
This diploma thesis describes the historical development of built heritage conservation, specially the conser-vation of industrial buildings. In 1923 the law for conservation of monument in Austria was founded. This law builds the base for monument conservators. The conservation of monuments is belonging to the ministry of arts and cultures. The conservators of monuments have different instruments to advance the preservation of monuments. A very important part of their work is to form opinions and to recreate awareness of the importance of industrial monuments. Owners of monuments and conservators often have very different interests. Monument´s owners aspire to financial success, conservators primary are interested to protect the built heritage. By the way of examples the redevelopment of the tobacco-factory in Linz and the redevelopment of the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam show successful contemporary using of protected factories. Analyses of the situation of the protected spinning company in Teesdorf describe the situation of owner and conservators. The results of the analyses form the base for the practical part of this diploma thesis.
Plans and details for the spinning company in Teesdorf should exemplary show solutions according interests of all involved parties. The design work provides a science park and an annexed hotel in the spinnery.
