Die griechische Insel Zakynthos, die südlichste der größeren Ionischen Inseln, hat als Hauptnistplatz der Meeresschildkröte Caretta caretta im Mittelmeer eine besondere Bedeutung. Aus diesem Grund hat der griechische Staat im Jahr 1999 in der Bucht von Laganas den Meeresnationalpark Zakynthos eingerichtet.Im Westen wird der Meerespark vom Kap Keri begrenzt. Dort beginnt die wunderschöne Westküste der Insel, die im Gegensatz zu den Sandstränden an der Ostküste und der Bucht von Laganas von weißen Steilfelsen in verschiedenen Formationen und von türkisfarbenem Wasser geprägt ist.Diese Masterarbeit zielt darauf ab, genau dort an dieser Grenze zwischen der ungezähmten felsigen Natur und dem vom Menschen geschützten Lebensraum der Schildkröten ein Besucherzentrum zu entwickeln, das beides feiert. Als eine große Skulptur, die einer stilisierten Meeresschildkröte ähnelt und das Meer überblickt, würde sie das Bewusstsein für die Bedeutung des Schutzes von Natur und Meer schärfen. Es würde auch Informationen über die Geschichte der Region und den Schutz der Meere vermitteln sowie einen Ort für künstlerische Interpretationen aktueller Themen schaffen.

The Greek island of Zakynthos, the southernmost of the larger Ionian islands, holds special importance as the main nesting site of the sea turtle Caretta caretta in the Mediterranean. For this reason, in 1999, the Greek state established the National Marine Park of Zakynthos in the Bay of Laganas.To the west, the marine park is bordered by Cape Keri. This is where the beautiful west coast of the island begins, which, in contrast to the sandy beaches on the east coast and the bay of Laganas, is characterized by steep white cliffs and rock formations and turquoise water.This master thesis aims to develop a visitor center right there on this border between the untamed rocky nature and the man-protected turtle habitat that celebrates both. As a large sculpture resembling a stylized sea turtle overlooking the sea, it would raise awareness of the importance of protecting nature and the sea. It would also convey information about the history of the region and marine conservation, as well as provide a place for artistic interpretations of current issues.
