Abstract:
Critical infrastructures often require communication technologies to operate. An example are smart power grids, which need communication for sensors and actuators to monitor and control network stability. However, the interconnection of devices increases the risks for cyber attacks. Attackers get more and more sophisticated in hiding attack and attack preparation activities, such as malware spreading, information exfiltration or the establishment of command and control structures. In this talk I will present hiding techniques for malware communication and discuss challenges in the detection of attacks in critical infrastructures.
