Abstract:
This thesis (diploma) is concerned with the fatigue analysis of welded structural steel components, which are investigated using specimen with different types of load. With the aid of simplified welding specimens a database for the assessment of more complex components shall be created. The investigations were based on welded specimen of BMW-Company Munich, witch were tested on the test bench using tension/compression - pressure, longitudinal bending, transverse bending loads. Goal of the measurement setups was to acquire information concerning the fatigue behavior of the components. This was done on the basis of S/N-Curves from the tests. With this work special attention was paid on the welding seam modeling. On the basis of micrographs FE-3D-volume-model and 2D-shell-model (fine models) were established, using the substitute radius concept according Radaj. Based on these models and the applied different loading situations, the notch-factors were determined according to Radaj method and registered in a welding seam data base particularly provided for BMW. For the fatigue analysis the software package FEMFAT of the internal software development department from ECS were used. Hereby the evaluation of the fatigue behavior of the welding seams is based on a local stress concept. Additionally influences were examined and analyzed such as element edge length, contact-effect, weld -penetration and root notch. For the fatigue analysis the FE-model of the structures were adjusted to the experimental setup and subjected with the respective load cases. The model alignment was done through comparison of the strains, which were measured by means of strain gauges (DMS) at the measuring points at the specimen, with the strain determined from the finite element analysis, which were computed from the structure strains using the three dimensional Hook law (general form). The test S/N-curves were used to adapt the weld database during iterative processes in such a way that the simulation results will represent the test results the best possible way. Finally for evaluation purpose (damage calculation) a frame component provided by BMW Munich on the basis of a FE-shell model was, analyzed with FEMFAT-Channel-MAX. The welding connections were defined with the generated joint types. Purpose of frame analyze was to locate the crack-positions by using damage calculation. This determined crack position (damage calculation) should be equal to the results out of the experiment.
