The prime aspect of this master thesis is to point out an alternative non- standard design approach for sustainable buildings in the Alps. This issue will be handled by the usage of parametric design methods, as well as the development of an architectural design. First the parametric design method, its advantages and its influence on the planning processes will be explained. Furthermore, the production of complex timber structures is described and their area of application will be shown by selected built projects. After that, the building site “Traunstein” in Gmunden is examined in detail. The climatic conditions, the analysis of the Gmundnerhütte, as well as an intern-ship on site provide information about the need of a culinary establishment in the Alpine region. Finally, all theoretical basics add up to a design proposal, which can be found in the chapter 3 “Traumstein”. The main body of the thesis involves the explanation of parametric shaping, the definition of the building structure, a concept for construction, transport and assembly and the description of the mostly self-sufficient building services. The outcome of this work is an environmentally friendly, technically demanding and coherent building concept.
