In cooperation with the company Clever Contour, Technical University of Viennas Institute of Production Engineering and Laser technology is working on a project to develop a new generative, incremental production process for plastic materials (PE5, PE10, PE10GK and PMMA). To fulfil this task, thermal radiation is used to heat up semi ¿ finished plastic products locally before bending them by an industrial robot (six degrees of freedom) in the air randomly. The aim of this paper is to discover a link between the temperature of the semi ¿ finished product and bending force, as well as the final ankle after spring back occurs. For that purpose, the emissive factor of the supervised samples is defined and an infrared camera is used to determine temperature distribution over the specimens cross section during preliminary trails. The results show decreasing bending forces and spring back when the temperature of the investigated plastic materials is increasing. Further, the described algorithm provides the possibility to improve the whole bending process according to the previous aspects.
