Analyse und Entwurf eines Nationalhistorischen Museums in Sofia, Bulgarien Ein Beitrag zur kulturellen Identität Bulgariens.

Abstract

Die Großstädte aus den zentralen und nördlichen Teilen Europas genießen bereits seit mehreren Jahrzehnten eine kontinuierliche Weiterentwicklung ihres kulturellen und infrastrukturellen Angebots, das häufig auf das Bevölkerungswachstum in diesem zurückzuführen ist. Dadurch sind im Laufe der Jahre öffentliche Bauvorhaben entstanden, die das Ziel verfolgen, die Städte attraktiver zu gestalten und weitere Investitionen anzulocken.Diese Bemühungen zeigen auch Wirkung. Laut dem Global Liveability Index für das Jahr 2022 werden die ersten drei Plätze der weltweit besten und schönsten Städte von Wien, Kopenhagen und Zürich belegt.Doch was passiert mit Großstädten aus anderen Teilen Europas, die solche Entwicklungen noch nicht erfahren haben? Ein passendes Beispiel dafür wäre Sofia, die Hauptstadt Bulgariens, in der mittlerweile etwa 20 % der bulgarischen Bevölkerung lebt und arbeitet. Sie, wie auch viele andere Großstädte, hat in den letzten Jahrzehnten zwar ein Bevölkerungswachstum erlebt, aber im Gegensatz zu Wien ihr kulturelles und infrastrukturelles Angebot nicht ausgebaut. Stattdessen wird bereits vorhandene großflächige Infrastruktur in den zentralen Teilen kaum instand gehalten. Auch beim Kulturangebot hat sich kaum etwas bewegt.Im Zuge dieser Diplomarbeit wird eine Recherche durchgeführt, die eine Bestandsaufnahme der gegenwärtigen kulturellen und infrastrukturellen Situation des zentralen Areals der Hauptstadt erzielt. Darauf aufbauend wird ein Vorschlag für eine lokale Verbesserung des Stadtgebiets und den Neubau einer kulturtragenden Institution wie dem nationalhistorischen Museum erarbeitet.

The major cities in the central and northern parts of Europe have been enjoying a continuous development of their cultural and infrastructural offerings for several decades, often due to population growth. As a result, public construction projects have been created over the years with the aim of making the cities more attractive and to attract further investments.These efforts have also shown results. According to the Global Liveability Index for 2022, the top three positions for the world‘s best and most beautiful cities are held by Vienna, Copenhagen, and Zurich.But what happens to large cities in other parts of Europe that have not experienced such developments? A suitable example would be Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, where about 20% of the Bulgarian population now lives and works. Like many other major cities, it has experienced population growth in recent decades but has not expanded its cultural and infrastructural offerings like Vienna has. Instead, already existing large- scale infrastructure in the central areas is hardly maintained. There has also been little progress in the cultural offerings.In the course of this thesis, research will be conducted to take stock of the current cultural and infrastructural situation in the central area of the capital. Based on this, a proposal will be developed for a local improvement of the urban area and the construction of a culture-bearing institution such as the National Historical Museum.
