Analysis of masonry investigations of Gründerzeit houses in Vienna. Since 1992, the masonry properties have been determined and evaluated in the form of destructive and non-destructive brick and mortar tests of over 200 Gründerzeit houses in Vienna with over 2000 test locations. From these material examinations, the brick and mortar strengths as well as their variations can be given as a function of various influencing variables, such as the storey, the position of the walls in the building, the number of storeys, etc. The results of these examinations can also be used as a basis for the calculation of the building‘s stability. Based on the geodata of the City of Vienna, the geographic location, the district, the type of building and the construction period of the buildings can also be included in the investigations. A data set with 38,570 independent numerical and categorical data was created and analysed using machine learning algorithms and descriptive statistics. The methods were used to find correlations and cluster analyses regarding the brick and mortar strengths and to identify the decisive influencing variables for determining the masonry strength. Furthermore, the different testing methods could be evaluated and recommendations derived. With the knowledge gained, it is possible to assess the most important material parameters that are necessary within the framework of the load-bearing capacity verification and the earthquake verification.
