Mit Wehmut zurück zu dir - Die Rückgewinnung des Industrieareals am Fischbach in Dornbirn

Abstract

Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit behandelt die Wiederbelebung eines stillgelegten Heizkraftwerks am Fischbach in Dornbirn, Vorarlberg. Aufgrund der eng verwobenen Geschichte der Stadt Dornbirn mit der Textilindustrie stellten Fabrikbauten, wie jenes am Fischbach, sowohl wirtschaftlich als auch sozial einen wichtigen Bestandteil der damaligen Gesellschaft dar. Mit dem Untergang der Textilbranche in Mitteleuropa verschwanden auch die Unternehmen und mit ihnen der soziale Raum in und um die Fabriken. Basis für den Entwurf, aber auch dessen Leitmotiv, soll die historische Bedeutsamkeit des Areals am Fischbach sein. Der Entwurf beschreibt einen Versuch, jenen verlorengegangenen informellen Ort des sozialen Lebens, durch die Adaption neuer Funktionen, welche an die Bedürfnisse einer modernen, schnell wachsenden Stadt wie Dornbirn angepasst sind, wiederzubeleben. Zunächst beschäftigt sich der theoretische Teil dieser Arbeit mit der Entwicklung der gesellschaftlichen, wirtschaftlichen und sozialen Rahmenbedingungen, welche Voraussetzung für die Entstehung dieser öffentlichen Räume darstellte. Zudem wird am Beispiel der Firma F.M. Hämmerle das Leben der Arbeiter_innen in und um die Fabrik beschrieben, um die Entstehung des im obigen Absatz erwähnten öffentlichen Raumes am Fischbach besser zu verstehen. Die daraus resultierende Erkenntnis bildet die Grundlage für den Entwurf und soll in den neuen Funktionen im Heizkraftwerk Ausdruck finden. Die Erörterung der langen Historie um den Fischbach hat dabei eine außerordentlich große Bedeutung.

This diploma thesis deals with the revitalisation of a disused combined heat and power plant at Fischbach in Dornbirn, Vorarlberg. Due to the closely interwoven history of the city of Dornbirn with the textile industry, factory buildings such as the one at Fischbach were an important part of society at that time, both economically and socially. With the decline of the textile industry in Central Europe, the companies also disappeared and with them the social space in and around the factories.The basis for the design, but also its leitmotif, is the historical significance of the Fischbach site. The design describes an attempt to revive this lost informal place of social life by adapting new functions that are adapted to the needs of a modern, fast-growing city like Dornbirn.First of all, the theoretical part of this paper deals with the development of the societal, economic and social conditions that were the prerequisite for the emergence of these public spaces. In addition, the life of the workers in and around the factory is described using the example of the F.M. Hämmer-le company in order to better understand the emergence of the public space at Fischbach mentioned in the above paragraph. The resulting insight forms the basis for the design and is to find expression in the new functions in the combined heat and power plant. The discussion of the long history around the Fischbach is extremely important in this context.
