Abstract:
Cultural heritage mapping is not only relevant for World Heritage sites, but should be applied to all sites in order to preserve the material part of the collective memory. Only on the basis of a comprehensive mapping it is possible to set sustainable measures for the meaningful management and thus the conservation of the cultural heritage. In the class, the basic framework for mapping cultural heritage is presented. lt is essential that the people living in or around cultural heritage sites are recognized as experts in the field. After all, they are the ones who are ultimately responsible for its conservation on a daily basis. All scientists who are involved in the preservation of cultural heritage can help to protect the values in responsible cooperation with the population. lt is important to communicate on an equal footing. The class is intended to provide an introductory framework.

The International Summer Course of Architecture (ISCA) 2023 program accommodates the involvement of international students and lecturers of Universitas Sumatera Utara, especially the Bachelor of Architecture study program, Faculty of Engineering. This program is one of the efforts to realize the vision of the Bachelor of Architecture study program, "To become an excellent and international standard architectural undergraduate study program accommodated by local excellence". This vision is in line with the vision of the Faculty of Engineering and the Universitas Sumatera Utara. This activity hopefully increases the internationalization of the Bachelor of Architecture study program in line with the Strategie Plan of the Universitas Sumatera Utara.
